Newcastle is a city renowned for its vibrant nightlife, friendly Geordies, and of course, its world-famous bridges. But beyond the buzz and bustle, there lies a hidden gem: the Sunday lunch scene.
Forget limp roasts and soggy vegetables. In Newcastle, Sundays are a time for culinary indulgence, where hearty plates collide with breathtaking views and charming atmospheres.
Whether you're a die-hard traditionalist craving Yorkshire puddings the size of your head, or a adventurous soul seeking gourmet twists on the classics, Newcastle's restaurants have something for everyone.
Gusto
Gusto is an Italian restaurant on Newcastle's Quayside, on Sundays they have a special Sunday Roast menu which includes all the classics like Siroin of Beef, Roast Chicken and Porchetta pork belly.
They also have a sharing platter for those who can't pick. Along with the above meats you also get a three-meat Ragu Shepherds Pie, roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings.
You also get a great selection of vegetables including beef fat carrots, cauliflower carbonara and braised red cabbage and greens.
The meats are all delicious but the italian twists like the porchetta and the cauliflower carbonara that make this special.

The Broad Chare
Along with the ususal menu on Sundays at The Broad Chare you can choose a roast dinner with a choice of Beef, Pork or Lamb. They are served with great yorkshire puddings, root mash and greens and crispy roast potatoes.
The beef is serverd perfectly pink as you would expect, the vegetables are all tasty, they yorkshire puddings are massive and the gravy is full of flavour. A great Sunday Dinner.
The small plates and bar snacks on the menu are great as a starter, shout out to one of the best Scotch Eggs I have ever had.

Wylam Brewery
In Exhibition Park is Wylam Brewery, a Micro Brewey with a Tap and Kitchen. The Sunday Roast menu has mains of Beef, Pork and Lamb. All served with bashed roots, Roasties, Glazed Parsnip, Buttered Greens, Yorkshires & Gravy.
Sam had the beef, as is her wont, which is beautifully pink with a rich gravy. I had the pork and can honestly say this is the best sunday lunch I have ever had. I still think about it often as it has the most amazing crispy crackling.
They have some great starters and puds on the menus too, I like the sound of the smoked duck with Beetroot, Pickled Rhubarb, Pistachio.

Blackfriars
If you want something a bit more fancy then Blackfriars is the place for you. You can choose from beef, pork, lamb and chicken, all prepared and presented to the highest standard with seasonal trimmings.
When we visited I ordered the pork which was a generous portion with great crackling and was served with wilted greens, smooth mashed potato, parsnip and apple purees and charred leeks.
It's not often I order a dessert but this time I did and went for the Sticky toffee pudding. The pudding was moist and flavourful with an unctuous toffee sauce.
You can see the Blackfriars Sunda Roast menu here.
