Newcastle Castle | Review

Newcastle Castle | Review

Newcastle Castle, The Castle that gave Newcastle it's name is a medieval Castle in the heart of the city and is a great destination for both visitors to the area and locals alike. We have been before a few years ago and it was great to go back.

There has been a castle at this site on the banks of the river Tyne since the Romans built Pons Aelius in around 193CE.

The New Castle was built in 1172 and the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne developed around it.

This post is based on a stay in December 2022.

Maldron Hotel | Newcastle | Review

We recently spent the night in Newcastle for Sam's birthday and a pre-Christmas party and we decided to drive in and stay at the Maldron Hotel.

The hotel is pretty central on Newgate Street so it is only a couple of minutes walk to both The Gate and the Bigg Market and it's only a 15 minute walk away from the Quayside as well.

Hotel Du Vin | Newcastle | Review

This post was originally published on North East Family Fun in 2019.

We're the kind of people who are happy to splash out on a super luxury hotel for a special occasion yet equally as likely to bunk up in a Travelodge. When looking for places to stay, it's all about value for money for us.

Cheap Newcastle Restaurant Deals

Newcastle Restaurant Week is imminent and although it's a brilliant chance to try a new restaurant at a set price (or visit an old favourite) amd there are some good deals to be had, personally, I don't always think Restaurant Week is the best place to find bargains or get a true reflection of the restaurant you are visiting (especially if they are super busy).

Once, I visited somewhere to try their restaurant week menu and they pointed out if I was to dine from their usual Wednesday Special Offer, it would actually be cheaper.

With this in mind, we have decided to share some of the cheapest places you can grab a bite to eat in Newcastle this January. I have tried to keep these all at under £10. ALWAYS check t&cs with restaurants direct and mention offers when booking and ordering.

A few weeks ago we had a night out in Newcastle as a Christmas Night Out and one of the places we stopped at was WC on The Bigg Market. WC is located underground in the old Newcastle water closet (hence the name).
