Maldron Hotel | Newcastle | Review

This post is based on a stay in December 2022.

Maldron Hotel | Newcastle | Review

We recently spent the night in Newcastle for Sam's birthday and a pre-Christmas party and we decided to drive in and stay at the Maldron Hotel.

The hotel is pretty central on Newgate Street so it is only a couple of minutes walk to both The Gate and the Bigg Market and it's only a 15 minute walk away from the Quayside as well.

When you arrive at the hotel there is a small lobby with chairs and tables just before you get to the reception desk, there is also an enclosed courtyard with outside seating.

There was a small queue of people checking in before us but service was still speedy.

The staff are always friendly and knowledgable and asked if we wanted to reserve a table at the restaurant, just beyond the reception is the restaurant and bar.

We stayed in the Deluxe Double Room which you can book for between £70-£100 depending on when you stay. There also twin rooms, family rooms and King rooms available. I think this is a real bargain for a 4* City Centre Hotel.

The Deluxe Double Room is very spacious with a double bed, Flatscreen TV with Freeview and a table and chairs, the bathroom is very clean and modern with a powerful shower.

You get all the normal amenities like coffee and tea, toiletries, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. As we were staying for Sam's birthday we let them know when we booked and the hotel were kind enought to leave a birthday card with gift of a couple of free drinks in the bar.

Newcastle has some amazing architecture but great views can be limited when you're in the city centre but I still think we were lucky with our veiw over the rooftops of Newcastle.

After we were checked in we started to get ready, after all it was Sam's birthday night out so we wanted to be a but glam, once we were ready we headed down to the bar.

We cashed in our gift vouchers and the barman was able to give us some recommendations on the beers they had and which he would choose himself.

After having our drinks and doing a bit of people watching we headed out for a meal and then night in Newcastles many bars.

There are loads of places in the immediate vicinity. We recommend Mother Mercy, the WC, Hibou Blanc, My Deli Newcastle and Cuba de Revolution.

Our night out turned into a bit of a sesh so we were happy that check out isn't until 11am. We had parked in The Gate car park which was £17 for 24hours (which I don't think is bad for a city centre) so it was as short walk to our car.

We decided to decline breakfast and venture into the city instead (this time it was Blakes for a proper bacon sandwich and strong coffee to help with the hangover.)

We have now stayed in the Maldron Hotel a few times and it has become our go-to hotel when we stay over in Newcastle.
