George's Fish Shack | Newcastle | Review

We worked with George's Fish Shack on behalf of North East Family Fun in November 2022 but were under no obligation to share this post. This post has been published by Steve.

We are very much a family of Seafood lovers and Fish n Chips is top of the list. Jack inparticular loves Fish n Chips and has it whenever he can. So we decided to take Jack to get his expert opinion to George's Fish Shack in Newcastle to try their Sunday Menu.

George's Fish Shack is in Eldon Square's Grey's Quarter in Newcastle, it is in the same place as the previous George's Great British Kitchen but this is a different restaurant and independently owned. The previous George's chain went into liquidation earlier this year.

The theme of the decor is the British seaside with quirky props and booth style seating designed to look like beach huts.

There is a good selection on The Sunday Menu, mostly seafood with local fish options like Craster Smoked Salmon and Chip Shop Favourites but there is also Sunday Roast options as well. They have a kids meal deal menu available with a few choices and an activity sheet too.

Jack is getting to the age now where kids meals are too small so we both went for the Battered Cod and Chips but Sam is a sucker for Scampi so opted for this for her meal.

There are various sizes for the Fish n Chips with Standard, Large and Whale and Chips if you're really hungry, there is also a 'Chippy Tea' Deal which comes with mushy peas, bread and butter and a cup of tea (available at selected times - see menu for info). We both went for the Standard Battered Cod and House Chips.

The chips are really tasty and the fish perfect flakey with the batter still crispy. Vinegar is available free of charge but there is an extra charge for sauces.

Jack said this was in his top 5 fish n chips he has had which consifering how much Fish n hips he has is high praise indeed. The Scampi is nice and crispy on the outside and succulent inside just as you want it to be.

Service was fairly quick and very attentive - we were checked back on three times and asked if we'd like more drinks when ours were running low.

There is no need to pre book a table at the minute and we went on Sunday early evening and got a table straight away. All of our meals were very nice and there are a few other items on the main menu I want to try next time including the Craster Lobster and the Lindisfarne Oysters.
