As a small business myself, I like to shop local where I can as I know how much of a difference each and every sale makes. Plus the service from a small business is always fantastic.

Where: 5-6 Old Eldon Square (just around from Eldon Squares exit onto Hippy Green). Due to the nature of the building, there are stairs to navigate but if you ring the bell the lovely staff will pop up and assist you with any pushchairs etc....
I just love their ethos:
Mr Wolf is determined to make shopping for kids magical once more and his store is just that. With toys out of their packaging for everyone to play with and staff who have played with every single toy, it is a go-to place for everything from a pocket money treat to that first family heirloom purchase.
With over 60 suppliers from all corners of the globe, Mr Wolf works tirelessly looking for new products and there is new stock on a weekly basis.

Other ideas........
Our local museums have some wonderful gifts in their shops - most of our museums are charity-run and buying from them is a brilliant way to support. Our favourite museum gift shops are Life, Great North Museum, Discovery Museum and Seven Stories.
Tyneside Cinema (also a charity) sell gift vouchers which make a brilliant gift for any film fan and of course tickets to see a show at one of Newcastle's fabulous theatres or music/entertainment venues is a fantastic way to support the arts.

I also feel like it is important to say that shopping local is not just for Christmas and these shops need our support all year round when you can.

Where is your favourite independent shop in Newcastle?
Pin me for later
Gosforth High Street is fab for independents. Yum Lush has great cards and gifty bits for grown ups and children, Pikku has baby/children's clothing and gifts and the everything shop for hardware/ gardens is great (I want to call it an ironmongery but don't think it quite qualifies...). I've not shopped at Jump myself for children's shoes but heard good things about it
ReplyDeleteSo so many great ideas and I really hope lots of people find alternatives to the high street when they're shopping for presents this year. I am obsessed with For the Love of the North at the moment, their stores are just fantastic, so good for stocking fillers!
